Do I need to complete WSET Level 1 before enrolling in WSET Level 2?
No. WSET Level 2 Award in Wines is designed for both wine enthusiasts and professionals who wish to build a solid understanding of wine.
Previous completion of WSET Level 1 or similar is not required, although some basic wine knowledge may be beneficial.
Is the course taught in English?
Teaching, study materials, and examination are conducted in English.
How much study time should I expect?
In addition to classroom teaching, students should expect to spend app. 20 hours reviewing the course materials and preparing for the examination.
What topics are covered during the course?
The course covers:
- Wine production
- Major grape varieties
- Key wine-producing regions
- Sparkling and fortified wines
- Wine storage and service
- Food and wine pairing
- The WSET Systematic Approach to Tasting (SAT)
Will we taste wine during the course?
Yes. Participants will be introduced to the WSET Systematic Approach to Tasting (SAT) through the guided tasting of approximately 45 wines.
What is the WSET Systematic Approach to Tasting (SAT)?
The Systematic Approach to Tasting (SAT) is WSET's internationally recognised method for analysing and describing wine.
It provides a structured framework for assessing a wine's appearance, aromas, flavours, structure and overall quality.
How is the examination conducted?
The qualification concludes with a 60-minute closed-book multiple-choice examination consisting of 50 questions.
Results:
- 85–100%: Pass with Distinction
- 70–84%: Pass with Merit
- 55–69%: Pass
- Below 55%: Fail
Successful candidates will receive an official WSET certificate and lapel pin once results have been processed by WSET.
What happens if I do not pass the examination?
One free re-sit examination is included if required.
Are course materials included in the course fee?
Yes, included in the course are:
- WSET study pack and official course materials
- Water during all sessions
- Wine list
- Access to special offers and purchasing opportunities
- And further to borrow six tasting glasses (same set used throughout the programme)
What happens if I cannot attend a course session?
As the course follows a structured curriculum, attendance at all sessions is strongly recommended.
